Windows Mobile 6.5 won’t be Microsoft’s flagship mobile system for long, but it will be debuting with a bang. The firm says at least 30 devices, from 15 manufacturers, will be running the system before the end of this year.

A list of cellphone radiation emission rates shows there is a wide gulf between the best and worst performing handsets. However, there’s very little difference between the levels of the 10 worst handsets.

AT&T is demanding that all new smartphone buyers on its network subscribe to a previously optional data plan. It’s being billed as a way to help customers avoid unexpected charges, but may also be designed to cull unprofitable subscribers.

African Americans are disproportionately likely to access the internet through mobile devices. The trend is drastically cutting the information gap between African American and white Americans.

A US consumer magazine’s rating of leading smartphones has perhaps predictably put the iPhone 3G S in top spot. But the surprising aspect of the rankings is just how close the performance of the various handsets was.
