Metro PCS offers up unlimited international calling for $5 a month

When you’re a little known cellular service company, there are only so many ways you can get the attention in a world filled with big brand names. One of those is to offer an insanely cheap service that makes just about every one sit up and take notice.

MetroPCS already makes the claim to being the leading “unlimited, flat-rate, no signed contract wireless communications service” provider in the country, and now they are looking to one-up that by adding unlimited international calling for a mere $5 a month.  While the exact details of who you will be able to reach except that the plan will be active to over 100 countries, and over 1,000 destinations.

While this isn’t available to all of the companies customers, it will be an option for those on the $40, $45 and $50 plans.  Seeing as their plans start at $30 a month, they aren’t eliminating that many of their customers.  The current plans include the 48 contiguous states in the United States and Puerto Rico, but it makes you wonder if this new plan will add Alaska and Hawaii or not.

While MetroPCS may not be the most widely known carrier in the country, this is certainly a way for them to drum up some attention for themselves.  If you are someone who must absolutely make international calls at any time, you could theoretically just sign up for their $40 plan and get unlimited international calls for $45 a month.  True, you could do even slightly better with Skype, but if you must absolutely make those calls at any time, this is certainly a viable option.

You can find more information about this plan on the company Web site.

It’s a good deal ut I love my Net10 phone. I pay up front for calls and texts and have no contract. 10¢ a minute for cclls and 5¢ per text. Can’t beat it!

The $5 for unlimited would be useful for some, I suppose, but I am not even slightly tempted. I use a Tracfone that has international calls at the same price as local to over a hundred countries. And the $5 add-on from MetroPCS is only available on higher priced plans.
Other benefits to using Tracfone include the fact that I do not pay roaming fees, their latest plan (Straight Talk) is the best priced prepaid available and the Tracfone coverage is probably the best. MetroPCS can’t beat that.
