T-Mobile to launch myTouch 3G on July 8th

T-Mobile is finally going to launch a second phone using Google’s Android operating system, and the wait for it isn’t going to be all that terrible.
Starting on July 8th, existing T-Mobile customers will begin being able to order the myTouch 3G from HTC. Unfortunately the delivery of your new phone won’t be until the end of July, but you’ll still be ahead of the general public which won’t be seeing it until some time in August. This still won’t smooth over those customers who have wondered why since this is just an updated HTC Magic, that has already shipped to parts of Europe and Asia, why it has taken so long to come out here, but at least it’s finally coming.
Features you can expect include:
- 3.2-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen
- 3.2 megapixel camera
- Accelerometer
- Onscreen keyboard will have portrait and landscape settings in most applications
- Quad-band GSM/EDGE
- T-Mobile’s 1700MHz 3G network
- Wi-Fi
As the phone will be running Google’s Android version 1.5, you can also expect deep integration with Google services such as Gmail and Google search.
The new phone will also be sporting a new exclusive application called Sherpa which will learn about you the more you use it. While details are sparse at the moment, it will apparently adjust the phone’s settings as it gets to know you better, helping to recommend restaurants, favorite stores and more. Hopefully by saying it it will “adjust settings”, it just means things such as your location and types of food you like, otherwise it could get annoying fairly quickly if it starts adjusting core settings.
Just last week T-Mobile also announced the Dash 3G, also slated for a July release, so it appears that the carrier is making a large push in to that category in the coming months.
The myTouch 3G will be $199 with a two year contract.

I for one am very excited to get myTouch3G. I’ve been using an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile for a while now.
I like T-Mobile’s network where I live and the call quality is excellent. I’ve been testing their 3G network out here in LA and I like what I see. They don’t have 80 million users clogging up the network so at least in my area it’s all mine for the taking.
No complaints here!
I text and email a lot for my business. Using a virtual keyboard is good for quick stuff, like searches. An actual keyboard is a must. If only the MyTouch had a slide out keyboard. It would be awesome.
I would have preferred a 3.5 mm jack, but when I stop and think about how many times I’d need it it’s really a moot point. I use my Nano for music and a BT headset for calls while driving.
