Fill out a survey and you could get a free Palm Pre with service
What’s the best way to build buzz around a new smartphone? Give some away for free, of course.
As the launch of the Palm Pre draws closer and closer, there are still many people out there wondering just how it will compete in a very crowded market. Sure you can always go into a store and check it out upon release, but will you believe what the salesman is telling you? What about if you could read al sorts of reviews from real people all over the Web?
This is the idea that Palm is going with under their new “Real Reviewers” program. Essentially all you have to do is go to this site, fill out a survey, and cross your fingers you are one of the lucky souls that gets selected. Now, admittedly, they do not come right out and say you will be receiving a Pre, but they do say it will be a “current-model” Palm phone, but what else could it be? The lucky recipients will also receive six months of service for the phone so they can really give it a proper shakedown.
In a market crowded with iPhones and BlackBerrys, this is the perfect avenue for letting people know what your phone is all about. Listening to a sales pitch can be helpful, but you know those people are paid to tell you that. Even though this could be viewed somewhat as a sponsored post type situation when these reviews inevitably get on to a blog, there is nothing saying these people will have to speak positively of the phone as they will already have the phone in hand.
Though it is a bit of a role of the dice for Palm as this phone is a total departure from their old operating system, it still seems like a sensible way to get the word out about a phone you believe in. Respondents to the survey who are chosen to participate will be notified by May 8th.
