Sprint Begins Training Employees On The Palm Pre

The Palm Pre, the successor to the Palm legacy, is nearing release, and it appears that Sprint wants to make sure their employees are up to speed on it.

Normally it shouldn’t be that big of a deal when a cellular carrier starts getting their employees ready to sell a new phone, but seeing as there is still no firm release date for the Palm Pre, this is an exciting sign that it may be imminent.  According to an email leaked to PreThinking, Sprint employees can expect the training to begin in April, with multiple communications to follow soon after leading up to the release of the highly anticipated phone.

When PreThinking followed up on this, they received the following reply from Sprint:

“I would like to inform that Sprint is in the process of providing the training for the new Palm Pre. Once it’s launched, Sprint will be ready to serve their valued customers regarding the Palm Pre.”

While it certainly isn’t set in stone that the training has begun, it is certainly looking likely.

The Palm Pre will be the first Palm device to use their new webOS, the successor to the old Palm OS which was recently retired.  The new OS is designed specifically for the ever increasingly web-connected mobile market, and this new system will maintain a constant connection with the Web.  This will allow you to keep multiple applications running and move between them, but it is easy to speculate this will be a quick way to drain your battery life also.

At this time pricing has yet to be set for the new device, and there is also no firm release date set.  If the training rumors are true, there were also rumors back in January that proved to be false, customers could expect the handset in the May/June release window that many sites have rumored.
